Roman shades add
simple classic lines to any
room. They can be made in
all kinds of fabrics and text

store-bought Roman shades
by doing any number of
creative things to them and
to the area directly around
them.

You can sew on
attachments to the shades
themselves. Make a cont
rasting color fabric border
for the shade. Add tassles
to the bottom hem of the shade. Or why not decorate the shade for a particular theme room or for an upcoming holiday? For instance, you could sew jumbo buttons onto the Roman shade in a random pattern if the shades are on windows in a sewing room. Iron on baby-themed appliqués for a nursery. Another way to add flair to Roman shades is to contrast the color of the shades with the wall color. You would be adding flair to the shades by painting a richly colored border around the window. This would emphasize the impact of the Roman shade.

You can also add flair to the Roman shades by changing the impact of the shades on a given room. When you buy Roman shades, get them in different colors. Set them up in the rooms that they were meant to be in, but after 6 months or so, change the shades around. Put a different color shade in another room. Just this one small change can impact a room and put flair back into your décor.
